Monotone fashion is really underrated. Usually when I see people doing it, it’s black or white. What, you don’t want to be purple from head to toe? It worked for Barney- just saying.
I’ve been looking for the perfect caramel colored dress for forever but I never realized just how much I love this color until I threw on this one from Brickyard Buffalo. I could make many variations of this head to toe look with all sorts of shoes and bags (though this Thacker NYC one is by far my fave). Some people may call this orange (though I prefer pumpkin if we have to go that route), but to me there’s a fine line between the perfect rich tan and a more peachy hue. This one hits just the right note.
So, how do you do monotone without black and white? Good question. I don’t usually do it, but, I think there a few reasons this outfit works so I’ll touch on those.
Pick a Neutral. No one wants to be hot pink or lime green head to toe. But, grey, beige, or olive work just as well as the all black look without flashbacks to the teenage goth phase.
Wear a dress. The only way I think you can go truly monotone outside of black, is by showing some leg, that way you break up the color with a little of your natural shade thrown in there. This is also how you can get away with some brighter colors head to toe- a red dress and pump can be downright hot with a bit of skin in between.
Accessorize. Add a pop of color with anything from your lip shade to your earrings. If you want to do head to toe with pants or a maxi, change it up with the shoes and/or bag. I went all warm with these gold accessories from the Little Wander Shop but you could add some cool accents to give you more contrast (I was digging the sunshiny feel all this bright was giving me though so I settled for a contrasting lippy and called it a day).
Who said monochrome had to be boring? Whatever you wear, make it about you and the things that you love! You can’t go wrong if you follow your heart even if that just takes you as far as a beautiful tan dress.

Monotone is mostly paired with black or white. However, you are able to rock an outfit without extending and seeking contrast from another color. What a lovely outfit.
