Fashion mistakes. We all make them. It’s not that I don’t love the pieces from this mini challenge (read more about the 5×5 fashion challenge here). I do. And, I even like a lot of the pairings. It’s that I chose one piece that didn’t work and, chose pieces I’ve photographed. I mean, yeah that’s my thing but this time, it just felt a little boring. At least it was comfy! And, part of the boredom may just be the winter blues and the lack of sunshine. How much more exciting would my outfits be in the great outdoors?
Let’s talk pieces: The Five
1. Black Velvet Top: c/o ShopTatyK
2. Striped Button Up: old
3. Pink Velvet Bodysuit: old
4. Vegan Leather Leggings: c/o Svelte Shapewear
5. Jeggings: old
Outerwear:
1. Chenille Cardigan: c/o Mint Julep in camel
2. Biker Jacket: H&M
Shoes:
1. Waterproof Boots: c/o Rockport
2. Velvet Loafers: c/o Rockport
Day 1: Velvete shirt, jeggings, Waterproof Boots, and Biker jacket
Day 2: Chenille Cardigan, Velvet Shirt, Vegan Leather Leggings, Lucky Brand Emmie Flats (meant to wear my Velvet flats). ***Favorite outfit for the week with all my favorite pieces- the chenille cardi from Mint Julep gets the most daily wear. My favorite shoes are definitely not these though- instead I love my Rockport boots- the most comfortable for winter weather***
Day 3: Biker Jacket, Velvet Bodysuit, Vegan Leather Leggings,Waterproof Boots
Day 4: Button Up Shirt, Velvet Shirt, Jeggings, Velvet Flats
Day 5: Chenille Cardigan, Jeggings, Button Up Shirt (with end of the day mommy snuggle wrinkles), Velvet Flats, Suede Bag c/o Thacker NYC (Stay tuned for a closer look at this fabulous brand- bags, denim, and your perfect capsule essentials.)
How I picked these pieces: I was recovering from the flu. I knew I wanted to incorporate my cozy chenille because let’s be honest, I live in that piece! But, apart from that, I went back and forth and I think originally I had a black dress instead of the bodysuit. It being freezing and me not being overly fond of tights, I switched it up. I think I’d have been happier with the dress. I always love the pink and black vibe so the colors were a no brainer and I’ve been loving my chambray looking button up (it’s actually a thinly striped light material that feels more like cotton than denim).
What worked: Everything except the bodysuit. It was perfect for the winter chill and cozy for my mostly at home (hermit like?) life. The colors were fab and the leggings are perfect any time. My favorite look was probably my black with the chenille sweater though I would have grabbed my velvet flats if I’d thought of it.
What didn’t work: Do I even need to say it? The bodysuit. I prefer it under jumpsuits or dresses. Paired with leggings as a top? Not so much. I love the fact that these were all pieces I wear on the daily and this really illustrated my momiform. But, at the same time, I have a couple pieces that could have spiced up the challenge and given it more of a kick!
What I Learned about my Style: I learned that I need something unique to give my challenges a pop. But, I love comfy in the everyday. The main reason I didn’t like the bodysuit was that I didn’t feel comfortable in it at all and it wasn’t functional for my life. So, I need interest and comfort. I could have accomplished this by switching out the bodysuit for one of my peplum tops or a dress that could be worn as a shirt in a pinch. Overall, this capsule was comfortable and fit my lifestyle. Other than the bodysuit church incident, I felt completely comfortable in all my pieces if a little bored at the pairings.

OMG I wish I could hire you to dress me! You’ve done such an amazing job with just a couple of pieces. I’m going to try this out for sure. I have a couple of new things I’ve bought, and I’m trying to look a little less like comfy grandmom this winter. Thank you for the fab advice. Here’s to the looking a little better this winter. I’m hoping I can take this and run with it.
You have an awesome sense of style! That Chenille Cardigan looks super comfy. I should consider purchasing one for myself.
I love the outfit with the leather leggings! I feel like they take any outfit to the next level.

You did an amazing job with these pieces! I have to say I love the photo sitting in the chair reading at the library. So much fun.
These are some really great simple ideas that are trendy, but also look comfy!
Oh hun, I feel you! It’s hard to deal with this bad weather and no light at all… I already told you how I loved the 3rd look. I think it’s such a comfy but super stylish combo.
Looking forward to the next 5×5 challenge – maybe already with some spring picks. 😉
