The Gift of Clean with bObi 

Pine needles and cookie crumbles cover the floor, something sticky spilled in the kitchen, and someone left a trail of tiny tinsel wrappers to the couch. It’s Christmastime and when you have four kids that just means messes are made with more exuberance than normal (candy cane sugar rush anyone?). It also means, less time to clean them up. Who wants to stop planning for festivities to sweep up crumbs and scrub the floors? Well, our new friend bObi does because that’s her job.

Ah the humming of a robot vacuum skimming over the floors is music to my ears unlike any Christmas carol I’ve ever heard. What are the holidays about if not sharing our gifts with friends?

We unboxed our bObi Classic, slapped a bow on her and showed up at my parents house. Who better to give the gift of clean to than the people who cleaned your messes for many years? My idea was to take our nifty new addition (she came with a birth announcement and everything), around and clean my friend’s houses too but kids- they get in the way of everything I swear! So, that will have to wait for another time. For now, sharing my dust killing little friend was enough and my children are excited to show off our newest little helper every chance they get!

Our house sees its share of messes from crumbs to a full on box of goldfish on the floors. I love that the bObi keeps the floor swept clean in between, and my kids love to watch her zoom from room to room. At my parent’s house, their pup sniffed it in interest and then decided she’d best let it do its thing. Plus, it has a mopping function, which means my kitchen is about to get a whole lot cleaner. The more she zooms about, the more she learns the layout of my cluttered house and the more effective she gets at getting every crevice. I don’t think I could have asked for a better Christmas gift this year (and, my kids think she’s better than a puppy so that’s win win for me!).

The down and dirty (or should I say clean?) on the bObi Classic Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop:

Pros. It does its thing in its own and picks up a lot of dust that can be harder to clean with a typical vacuum. It’s easy to use right out of the box and has a long run time before it needs to be recharged. It navigates a cluttered house well and cleans right up against the baseboards and gets in hard to reach spaces (I don’t have to vacuum under the kitchen table anymore yay!). It’s also very good for eliminating dust bunnies, which is a plus for this dust mite allergic mama.

Cons. It definitely makes its presence known as it zooms from room to room (part of that may be that my children refuse to let it do its thing without a game of leap bObi, sigh). That said, it’s not as loud as a typical vacuum. The only other con is that it doesn’t work on my plush carpet but nothing does and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bObi not only works on low pile carpet, but it moves from hard surfaces to my area rugs with ease.

The Verdict. Great vacuum for maintenance between spot cleanings (I don’t think I’d expect it to clean the cereal spills regularly, though it could). Really good for houses with low pile carpet and hard surfaces. Great for house with pets to control fur and maintain a dust free floor.  Would be amazing for someone who has a hard time getting around or with a bad back for which sweeping/vacuuming is physically difficult.

Christmas isn’t just about what you receive but what you give and how you share. Whether you share your talents, your time, or your things, give freely this Christmas. And, if you have the good fortune to find a bObi under your tree, make sure you give the gift of clean, because that’s one thing everyone can use all year long.
