Staying warm when you hate outerwear
I’m just not a huge fan of coats. I keep trying. In fact, I think I bought six coats for ridiculously inexpensive prices from target this winter. I returned all but one of them. I kept my dress coat because I literally didn’t have one. That’s it. I am picky about my outerwear. It can’t be wool because then I just itch (a lot). It can’t be too tight across the shoulders. Can’t be too big or it’s not warm and defeats the purpose. I think I’ve evolved past the peacoat phase of life (I’ve had quite a few).
So, what to do? That’s where big cardigans (which I’ll save for another post) and scarves come into play. Especially sweater scarves. Sweater scarves are in right now- have you noticed? Well, they are. And, they’re available in all sorts of textures and fabrics. My favorites are super soft and wooly (but not actually wool- usually acrylic because apparently my body prefers synthetic fabric).
Here’s an outfit I threw together on a day when I had to leave the house and be presentable but I wanted to stay comfy. It was wearable throughout my busy day (though the pants refused to stay up but that’s a whole different problem) and was super cute for teaching homeschool book club in the evening. So, there you have my take on keeping warm in the crazy Virginia weather.
