We’ve talked about this before and I’m sure we’ll talk about it again. Maxis are one of the most classic summer dress styles. They provide good coverage for moms and are light and breezy for the summer heat.

One thing I haven’t really been doing too much of this summer is color. This is totally out of character for me as I’m all about color usually. I guess the older I get, the more I like to blend in to the background in my greys and tans and blacks. But, every now and again you find something that just makes you smile from the brightness of it. That was this dress for me. The design, the flow, the color.

The other thing I love about this dress is the lining. It has all the coverage of a typical maxi but the coolness of a mini. I did still have to wear some shorts under this for modesty (I don’t want to pull a Britney getting out of the limo- you 80s babes know what I’m talking about). The long side slits allow for comfortable walking and a pretty flutter in the wind.

I wanted to throw a long pendant on until I realized it had a built in necklace with the leather tie. By the way, that also makes the top totally adjustable. You can pull it up for an ultra high neck or let it out a bit for a little looser look. I decided overall to just let this design talk for itself with minimal beachy accessories (can you tell I’m longing for the ocean with my Jamaican bag and straw hat?) and a pair of comfy espadrilles (the only note about those shoes is that they have Velcro at the ankle- which I feel okay about except for some reason it keeps popping open when I walk. I prefer zippers and buckles or snaps but apparently that’s just me because everyone is doing Velcro right now).

How do you Maxi? For me, it’s every way I can from basic black to this colorful geometric print. It’s all about the length this summer.

    1. It’s so easy to fall into the monotone which I also love for its sophistication but every once in a while a little color is fab!
