Rug: c/o Lorena Canals (use code Mommyinflats10 for 10% off your entire order)

While we’ve been tidying up, I’m also trying to cover up my girls’ carpet (as you saw in this post). I never would have thought of putting a rug on carpet before but these rugs are perfect because they’re washable and they actually stay put even better when you layer them. This little girls carpet needs some help (someone got into it with a sharpie, I won’t name names but it was the mermaid girl;). So when I saw this amazing pink rug from Lorena Canals, I knew we needed to use it in this pink room.

I find interior design to be an ever evolving process so I never feel done with a project. This little girl’s cottage room is still in need of some work (the curtains are going to come down in favor of cordless shades and we’ve added more flowers to the wall). Those nursery rhyme plates adorned my parent’s house growing up and add a nostalgic touch to my oldest girl’s space. I considered repainting the area and may come back to that. But, when I went to choose another color, my sweet Rose just wanted another shade of pink. I gave in and decided I’ll give her a few more years. I figure one day she may want another color- however I’m not holding my breath. This little is not a fan of change.

Have you ever thought of layering rugs on carpet? The thing I love about it, is that I can vacuum under it and then just wash the topper (all of Lorena Canals rugs are made to pop in the washer and I do regularly) without having to worry about more dust and dirt seeping into the flooring (really carpet is gross but this is helping). I also love the dimension this textured style gives her room. And, she loves having a place to sit without sneezing (carpets are bad for our sinuses too).

Oh did anyone get my rose reference above? Straight from the Secret Garden- at least the movie, I really need to read the book. Anyone else love the old Hallmark movie? If you haven’t seen it, give it a look for a glimpse of a very young Colin Firth (though not til the very end).

  1. I love the quote! And this rug is so pretty! I’ve been so unsure of adding rugs to carpetted floors, so I’ve enjoyed seeing how you’re doing it! It looks great!
