New Year, New Do
Just kidding. This is totally the same hair I’ve had for…okay it’s too long to remember. Val if you’re out there you can pipe up- we’ve been doing the reverse bob on and off since what 2010? Anyway, I thought since I haven’t talked about fashion much lately, I’d take a minute to talk about my hair before diving back in (nevermind the look of exhaustion on my face- these were right before Christmas and I took all four children with me to do the hair cut thing…that was fun;).
It’s fine. And, no I don’t mean like hot fine, I mean like thin fine. I used to have a pretty decent head of hair. Then A happened, followed by B, the wild thing, and baby Hey J. I am just now noticing little sprouts of hair coming back in from the last great shed (aka the birthing process). Over the years, I have tried many hair cuts, long and straight, long layers, medium length layers, angled in the front, the Rachel, bobs I liked, bobs I really didn’t like, bangs- need I elaborate? But, it wasn’t until I stumbled across the idea of a really extreme reverse bob that I hit my stride.
See, I don’t like short hair. In fact, if I could manage long flowing locks, I totally would. But, I can’t. When my hair gets long, it gets weighed down, which makes my already fine hair look even finer. So, simple, right? Just cut it. I don’t like short hair around my face. It’s such a pain, it gets in my eyes, it’s hard to style, I can’t tuck it behind my ear or pull it into a ponytail. Long and short (no pun intended), it doesn’t work for me. So what’s the solution if you can’t have long hair and don’t like short hair? A reverse bob. And, not just any reverse bob, one that’s really long in the front and tapers drastically along the sides to a chin length bob in the back.
My hair stylist says I’m the most severe line she’s personally cut and I think she thought I was a little crazy at first. But, after rocking this same haircut for two years or so I think we’re both sold. It’s easy to manage which is a must with little kids and doesn’t take much to look pretty. That’s a win in my book.
Have you tried a new hairstyle recently? What trend are you dying to give a whirl?
Here’s a few pictures of how my hair has looked with previous revisions of this cut. The color changes more than the cut. Excuse the multitude of selfies, but you can kind of see a progression from my first cut which was much more gradual to the more severe cut I’m sporting today.
