I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before but I’m a mom. To four. To some that may seem like a lot and others, a walk in the park. To me that seems like just enough to rarely go on a group date. I don’t have time to coordinate date night with our own schedules much less with multiple couples.

When my mom invited us to see stand up comedian Emo Philips in DC, I knew we had to find a way to make it happen. Cleared schedule: check. Babysitter: check. Outfit fit for a night club…that’s where Tobi came to the rescue. I have been looking for the perfect tee shirt dress and that’s just what they delivered. It’s a nice soft comfy fabric, just the right length and perfect to pair with a denim or leather jacket and some rock and roll heels (though, I have to admit, these may not have been the best for walking the streets of D.C.- I may not wear shoes for a week- ah the price of fashion).

Before we get into how the night went, can we talk about the morning. I woke up to an email confirming my tickets at the D.C. Drafthouse Comedy Theatre…for 10 pm. Wait a minute 10 pm?!? They meant 8 right? Luckily, a quick email to the manager (Hi, Peter!!) and they fixed it up for me (fantabulous customer service). The place was packed so I’m glad they were able to move us around. Crisis averted, but this is just a glimpse into life with me. I’m always doing 10 things at one time- sometimes with more success than others! Luckily, my husband can often talk me down from a ledge, and if not, I’m really good at fixing things- with the right people that is (thanks again Drafthouse!!).

Back to the night: driving in DC is always fun, at least we only took one wrong turn. We wanted the scenic route anyway…right? We had a fantastic dinner at a self-proclaimed American Tapas restaurant called “Lincoln.” The mini order of deviled eggs my brother ordered came out complete with an antique egg scale and there were pennies adorning the huge white leather booth we were seated in. Why pennies you may ask? Think about it. Pictures of Lincoln covered the wall and jar pendants set the scene with a faint glow. Everything about the restaurant screamed me with all the eclectic feels. That and their flourless fudge cake, which was enough to share but I wish I hadn’t!

The evening went on much the way it began (well minus the wrong turn) with two comedians who made me laugh so hard I cried and then got a headache- did you know you can get a headache from laughing too hard? You do now.

Throughout it all, my shoes may have given me trouble but the soft cotton of my tee dress certainly didn’t. I felt city ready in the soft grey (this one is really really grey- no question…Right family?!! Everyone’s a critic- eh?;). And the design made me feel right at home with the night crowd in a big city- even if I’m small town bound these days.

  1. What a fun night out, once the chaos was complete, lol. The tee dress is super adorable! Who would have thought something so simple could look so upitty for a night out. I have no sense of fashion beyond a tee and jeans.

    1. A tee and jeans can be great too!! ❤️ it was definitely fun and I love dressing up comfy pieces.
