Coffee Tee: c/o Mint Julep; Skirt: c/o Aventura Clothing; Sandals: c/o Naot

I don’t really have a long witty post for you today (I got all that out on Friday with what felt like a marathon of photos all about who knows what?). But, I do have some pictures of me in some clothes I like in front of one of the new murals in town.

Confession time. I’m not a huge skirt person. I keep thinking I am so I buy them but whether or not I wear them is another thing entirely. This button up skirt by Aventura has been sitting way too long waiting for a wear but between rain clouds and busy summer days, I never seemed to get around to it. I’ll be honest, I don’t know what my hang up is with skirts (no pun intended;). I love dresses and shorts, so you’d think the in between would be a love too. And, I do. This skirt is so sweet with the buttons and the perfect length (not too long and not too short) and it’s comfy (not too tight or too loose). I think I’m just not the kind of person who is ever going to reach for a skirt on the daily. But, I also didn’t think I was the type of person who was going to give up the flip flops or the leggings and here I am! But, if anything was going to make me a skirt all day everyday it would be this one.

Past this buttoned down perfection, is the backdrop. The mural. In the middle of my small, sleepy two stop light town. How it got there, I don’t really know. What it means, I’m also not quite sure but at least it’s pretty (there are one or two on buildings at random of things I’m not sure what they are and why anyone thought to paint them on the side of a building anyway). Come to think of it, where did this mural obsession start? Have you been seeing them pop up here there and everywhere too? I mean, though they’re beautiful, I have to wonder if it’s a fad that we’re going to shake our heads at in 20 years like mullets and 80’s hair bands? At the very least, future generations can just wave goodbye at the tax payer money that went into constructing them and spend much less to paint over them. Until then, they add a little interest to my instagram so thanks for that!

If you can get past the skirt and the mural, let’s take a look at these shoes. They’re from a brand called Naot and I’m in love. Two things. One, they’re super comfy, everywhere shoes in a really beautiful color. Two, velcro. I remember the first time I bought a pair of shoes with velcro. I got them online and had no idea what I was in for. I cringed at the sound of the fibers tearing slowly apart and had flashbacks to the 80s before I learned to tie bows. But, the kitten heels were lovely and I couldn’t quite convince myself to part with them even with the pre-K memories (which weren’t all bad despite being a preschool drop out). That’s when I discovered the convenience of velcro. Let me break it down for you. Velcro is made for moms (to wear). It’s why so many women’s shoes feature it these days. Buckles are cute but not exactly easy to kick off. Ties are always coming undone. And, zippers aren’t all that adjustable. But, velcro?? It’s the solution to all of those problems and more. Velcro makes leaving shoes by the door a breeze (day no to street dirt on your floors), it stays stuck, and when they’re are a little big, one quick restrapping usually does the trick.

In summation (because we learned last week I’m a pretentious english graduate), these shoes with the faux buckle and the olive suede are filling up space in my closet like the murals are filling walls off main street. And, I don’t begrudge either one inch of it.

    1. That’s cool! Ours are all just random- I wish they had a little more meaning (while still being modern) but either way they’re pretty!

    1. Aww thank you! I love my hair like this too but wouldn’t you know it only turns out about 10% of the time haha. ❤️

    1. I don’t know what it is but I do wear them a couple times a month, just not the way I wear denim and dresses. I love this one though- it sits just right for wearing with tees and it feels just the right amount of casual. ❤️❤️❤️

  1. Jamie, this outfit is so adorable! I absolutely love your coffee tee. And I’m like you, I don’t reach for skirts very often either. I have a ton of them in my closet, but I am definitely more of a jeans/jean shorts or dress girl. And that mural is really cool. I live in a smallish town and we have nothing so cool as that! I sort of wish we did because they do make for really cute photo backdrops!

    1. Funny story- the town in general hates the murals (we have a lot of older people and they are not loving the change). I think they’re fun but there are a couple really weird ones that make me go “huh” lol – I’m a coffee addict so the tee was made for me ❤️ thank you girl! I love your style too!

  2. I’ve learned that skirts are a girls best friend in the summer….for some reason they seem so perfect for the hot weather and yet being a little girly!!
You gotta love the fun murals like this—it makes taking photos so much better!!
