It’s suit month and when I say blazer I’m not talking about the sun (though it’s scorching lately) but this fabulous boyfriend suit jacket care of Thacker NYC. From the moment I saw it, I knew I wanted to try to dress up their amazing nantucket striped romper for a work-esque look. But, I didn’t stop there. I wore it with a dress, shorts, even a bathing suit. It is literally one of the most versatile pieces I own right now and I’m loving the throw back feels it gives me with the relaxed slightly boxy fit.

Being a mom, I don’t need many dressy pieces and certainly not work friendly. But, I like to look put together. Don’t get me wrong, at home, a sweats and tee shirt mom bun day here and there are definitely necessary- especially on deep cleaning days. Sometimes, I want or need to look a little more on top of things though and that’s wear a versatile piece like a blazer comes in. I love the idea of one suit piece versus a full one for moms. This way I can throw it on with jeans or a comfy pencil skirt (like this one from Amelia James).

I want to say I came up with this concept for a post and then went with it but I didn’t. I just haven’t been able to stop wearing my blazer everywhere. And, I don’t dress up all that much so these casual meets classy looks are where it’s at for me. On to three ways to dress up a blazer.

With a Jumpsuit: This was the look that inspired it all. I was drooling over these nantucket stripes and I couldn’t wait to see how it would pair with the classic jacket. Here’s where I admit that sometimes my vision doesn’t always work so well when shopping online. But, I have no regrets with this pairing. The flirty flare of the romper (I probably could have sized down but I kind of like the oversized skirt look this gives me) paired with the relaxed blazer was a match made in heaven. Toss in that signature Thacker NYC bag and it doesn’t get any better.

About the shoes: I never knew how much I needed a nude shoe in my life until I found these peep toes care of SAS Shoemakers. These are the perfect summer dress shoe. They’re perfect for everything from wedding season to an afternoon date.

Over a Dress: Now that I think of it, suit jackets with dresses aren’t really a done thing so much as with skirts and pants. I suppose there are a few times I’ve seen the look but it usually brings to mind a more fitted version. But, this is actually the first outfit I made with the jacket and it was perfect for a breezy spring day. Though it’s getting warmer, I’m still happy to have some good outerwear to save from the AC (or let’s be honest, the Costco refrigerated section). This may have been my favorite look and why I’m saving the photos for a closer look in my Friday favorites.

About the shoes: I’m not exactly sure where my husband came up with this pair, but I believe it’s an out of stock style. Last season or not, they’re definitely getting the run around (no pun intended) on my feet this summer. But, speaking of Friday favorites, here’s a similar pair from Naot Footwear. This new to me brand is topping my list lately in comfy but stylish shoe options.

Dressing up Jean Shorts: What is more typical for moms during the summer than jean shorts? I mean, we’ve been doing denim since women started shunning full length dresses for leg baring options. I really love the classic feel of this outfit. Dressing up denim is one of my favorite things to do and this Thacker NYC striped cropped sweater finished the look with a bit of sailor chic.

About the shoes: Vionic where have you been all my life? I’m not even kidding. This twist on the espadrille is making tracks this summer everywhere from the grocery story to by the pool. This is my first pair of mules since I was probably, okay, I can’t remember that far back but suffice it to say, it was a good pair to break me back in. I can’t get over how easy they are to slip on and go without sacrificing an ounce of comfort or style. The only problem is that now I want them in every color.

All that aside does every mom need a blazer? I don’t know, but if this post didn’t make you want one, are we even friends? Just kidding. Seriously though, sometimes fashion isn’t about function. Sometimes, it’s about finding something that makes you feel a little less like a mom even if it’s just the perfect boyfriend blazer and a cute pair of shoes (or three).
