Last year I gave up yoga pants (leggings really) on the daily but that doesn’t mean I don’t wear leisurewear. It just means I try not to be frumpy. What is one of the most cozy, comfy, around the house item of clothing you can think of? If you said sweats, we’re on the same page. But, this fall is all about the challenge. And, what’s more challenging than taking the sweatsuit off the couch and into the street?

Turns out this wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be thanks to m/f people‘s line of reimagined sweats. They’re comfy, cozy and oh so soft but with a flare of style that’s a little unexpected. Their People Sweatpant takes traditional sweats and adds a cuffed ankle and trendy high waist, making it easy to pair with this season’s crops. They took a basic cotton tee, dropped the shoulders and made the perfect date night out top (stay tuned for that coming Friday!). But, the cropped sweatshirt has to be my favorite: add a flowy skirt and you have a winter party look without any stiff feels (seriously I feel like this one could be holiday party fabulous with just a little bling and a good red lip).

Four quick ways to dress up sweats:

  1. Knot it. A knot to your tee instantly adds a piece of interest to your outfit and breaks up a basic casual look.

  2. Just add jewels. Jewelry can take a plain solid shirt from basic to wow and it really is as easy as a long necklace and some bangles on the wrist.

  3. Go for texture. Adding an element of luxury to your casual sweats takes them from lounging to the street in one easy step. You can do this with lace, velvet, or leather. Above I threw on my favorite jean jacket from Tribal Fashion (more looks on the way featuring this fab denim).

  4. Crop it. Cropped sweatshirts and tops are easy to dress up because your not left with a lot of material when you add a skirt or your favorite skinny jeans. Cropping the bottoms of your pants allows you to add cute ankle length heels which also takes your look up a notch.

I’ve dressed up jeans and leggings but can honestly say this is the first time I tried to spice up my sweats. Starting with quality pieces made this challenge a breeze. I don’t know about you but as snow approaches, I feel like hibernating. Now, I can do it in style and won’t think twice about wearing my favorite sweats around town.
