This fall, it’s not so much about what you wear but about how it feels. From velvet to chiffon and lace to ruffles, it’s all about the texture. And, if you’re not layering it, you may be missing out on this fall’s hottest fashion secret (or maybe not so secret): the all in one layered piece.

Sneak a peek back at this sweater from Pink Blush. It’s oversized which is always on trend in the cozy months but never moreso than this fall, with the swing dress still flooding the runway. It’s layered. It’s flirty and feminine with a chiffon hemline peeping out beneath a classic soft caramel design.

Mocha Chiffon Sweater: c/o Pink Blush

White Slip: my closet – look for simple night gowns and under slips to use for creative layering

Boots: Born

Dress: c/o Pink Blush; Shoes: Earth (similar in booties); Jacket: Liverpool jeans

Let’s switch it up with a little length and a winter grey. This sweater dress also plays on textures and layers with the lace edging. It adds just the right elegant touch to this basic sweater dress (note the style, design and flow of this piece is very similar to the first, that’s where the layered texture really pops to make it stand out but stay classic).

Bonus tip
: add texture and shape to a basic dress by layering a plain slip under it. And, if you’re ever looking to change it up- cuffs are all the rage this season.

Whether you texture it up with frilly lace or soft velour, your sure to smash this fall scene when you add layers to classic pieces.

  1. These are great tips! I always like to add a little touch to my more plain dresses. I always start off buying plain things because I like to dress them in different ways! Those dresses are all gorgeous!

  2. These are all great combinations! I love the pop of color and the texture of the blue velvet jacket. And all those layers of your dress with the boots – so cute!

  3. You are ROCKING these layers mama ! I sometimes have a hard time with layers like this . I end up looking like a bag lady and too frumpy. Love all of these outfits !!

  4. Girl I LOVE the idea of using a slip as a layering piece! I totally thought they were so old school and only what my mom used to wear. Going out to buy one NOW!
