So much for the warm, beautiful weather. It seems a cold front is coming just in time to see winter’s final week out. What better way to beat the cold weather blues than a bright, warm tea party? The kiddos have been pretty good sports this winter but they haven’t really been all that cooped up. We’ve all stayed relatively healthy (knock on wood) and the warm weather has kept us out of doors and our schedule full of backyard playdates. When we are stuck inside, we have a recently finished play basement (yes the whole basement is now devoted to play) and this bright room for a few special toys and some snuggly TV time. I’ve been able to fill it with my favorite vintage finds like that beautiful bamboo formica table. It’s the perfect size for the kids to use for all their imaginative play.
We won’t talk about how it originally came with four stools that fit perfectly under it because that was a DIY project gone wrong if there ever was one (let’s just say it ended with me throwing my hands up and instructing my husband to remove them from my sight to never be seen again). However, I did buy a set of PBK beanbags to use with it. That seemed like a great idea at the time, until I realized just how huge those really were. They took up the entire room. Sure, they’re comfy for the kids (although said kids tend to use them as landing pads for jumping more than anything- it’s a wonder we haven’t ended up with polyfill bursting everywhere). But, they just weren’t right for the space (to the basement they go). Then, I found these floor pillows. They are the perfect size for sitting and for little hands to carry from room to room. But, best of all, the flowers and sun stack neatly under the table (see here) and the extra accent pillow make adorable additions to our cozy daybed couch.
On to the tea party- what’s a party without a dinosaur? Luckily this one kept his roars to a minimum and didn’t frighten the poor princesses too much. He did, however, keep trying to steal the purple one’s crown. Complete with apple juice (highly diluted- remember we are stuck inside) and animal crackers, the party was a huge succes. It was the perfect diversion from the cold blustery weather outside and kept the little ones happy and content with mama for an hour or so (which when you have four kids eight and under can seem like eternity).
How can you recreate this scene in your house? Keep your eyes out for these adorable Popatu tutu dresses that I find at Costco. Find yourself a sweet tea set (thank you Aunt Alice- ours was a birthday gift). And, snuggle up on the floor with some colorful floor pillows- I swear these Floor Blooms made the party that much more special with each child having his or her own little blossom as a throne. As a bonus, these blooms are made by a small business owning momprenuer- something we should all get behind. And, I think they would make a fantastic addition to Easter morning- a trail of flowers leading to baskets? Easter bunny stop here please!

Floor pillows are the greatest investment ever. Parents who sit for hours without them playing with little ones are crazy!;) Excellent post and very creative! Love the dinosaur at the tea party!
Yes! I totally agree and these are so reasonably priced and such high quality. They were a fraction of the cost of my PBK beanbags that I’m not in love with and much comfier too.

Yes! The dinosaur hoodie is so perfect, the 2 year old doesn’t leave home without it currently. And, he always has to have a hood. Cracks me up!
