It’s cold. It’s snowy. It’s hard to stay fashionable when you’re freezing your butt off. And, believe me, fashion is the furthest thing from my mind when we start hitting single digits outside. That said, when it’s cold, you have to wear something so why not look warm and cute?

Winter Wardrobe Must Haves

1. A Thick Multi-purpose coat. A coat that you can wear with dresses or jeans and still look just as put together? This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still have a snow coat but it does mean you may be able to pare your winter outerwear down to 2-3 pieces instead of 10. I bought this coat last year from BetaBrand and I’m still loving the versatility. Between this and my parka, I can face pretty much any weather.

2. Faux Fur Accessories. This is my favorite scarf. It’s so fluffy and warm. The extra fibers help pack in the warmth. I am dying for a good pair of gloves and maybe a hat. For now though, this infinity scarf doubles as a muff to keep my fingers toasty.

3. Knee Length Boots. Adding layers is always good. I really love these ones because the boot shaft is soft as butter and hugs my legs to keep them extra warm.

Bonus winter trend

Velvet. Tops, dresses, even pants are going Velvet this year. We saw this trend explode in the fall and it’s picking up speed. It’s a great winter fabric with the luxe feel and the warm insulating factor.

    1. Yes! They make you so much warmer especially if you throw some extra warm socks or leg warmers underneath!

  1. As I am reading your post, I am listening to the forecast. These must have will help survive that cold winter. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Ah more layers? I mean I only dress for walking from house to car to destination but this would work for tramping in the cold a little. Spring is supposed to be all about the sandals and pulling out the tanks!

  2. That scarf looks so warm! I have noticed a lot of velvet too, but I can’t jump on that bandwagon it irritates my skin too much.

    1. This scarf is my favorite! I love how cozy and fluffy it is. It was from loft a couple years ago but I hope they bring it back- such a great essential.

  3. Love your outfit so much! That velvet top is so beautiful. And I love scarfs too in Winter, they’re my favorite essential.

  4. It is cold and style shouldn’t be compromised. A nice black basic coat will get you through the winter for any event. Love that scarf!

  5. You look so cute!! I have been eying boots like that all winter and should probably just bite the bullet!
